There is no doubt about the medicinal benefits that Marijuana can offer. It can be useful in the treatment of Cancer, Epilepsy, Glaucoma, Migraines, Pain, Psychiatric Disorders, HIV, Terminal Illnesses, and many other ailments. While Marijuana can help with many different illnesses, it is vital to select the strain that works best for your particular symptoms. Doing so will ensure that you receive the most benefits possible from your treatment. There are two major strains of Marijuana, Sativa and Indica. There are also Hybrid Marijuana strains as well, which contain properties from both Sativa and Indica plants.
[gap height=”60px”] [title text=”The Sativa Cannabis strain”]Sativa is grown more in Northern areas, and is characterized by slender, light green leaves. It also grows taller than its Indica cousin. Sativa has a mind energizing effect, and is best used during the daytime. This effect is why Sativa is known to have a “head high”. Because of this mind energizing effect, it helps with depression and enhances creativity.
Conditions commonly treated with the Sativa strain include:
- Depression
- Social Anxiety
- ADD
- Fatigue
- Migraines
Sativa has a higher ratio of CBD than its Indica counterpart. It is also loaded with antioxidants and boasts no negative side effects. It’s properties are:
- Nuero-Protective
- Anti-Convulsant
- Anti-Inflammatory
- Anti-Psychotic
Indica is grown more in Southern areas, and is characterized by broad, dark green leaves. Indica has more of a mind relaxing effect, therefore it is best used at night-time. Because of its mind relaxing effects it can be sedative, so it is very effective in the treatment of insomnia. The sedative nature of Indica is the reason behind it’s famous nickname: “in-da-couch”. It typically has a higher amount of THC than the Sativa strain. It is also an effective appetite stimulant, and can help to ease pain and anxiety.

- Glaucoma
- Muscle Pain
- Cancer
- Asthma
- AIDS
- Epilepsy
- Gastric Disorders
- Arthritis
- MS
- Cerebral Palsy
- Fibromyalgia
- ALS
- Insomnia
There are also strains that can be considered Hybrid strains; meaning they have properties from both Sativa and Indica strains. Most strains of Marijuana grown today fall under this category. Some Hybrid strains are Sativa dominant, and some are Indica dominant. It is also possible to have a Hybrid strain that has an equal proportion of Hybrid and Sativa properties. Hybrids can be particularly helpful if you have multiple issues that are being treated, which could benefit from both Sativa and Indica properties.
Which Strain is right for you? The effect that you are looking for depends on which ailments you are treating, and the type of effect you are looking for. It can also take some experimenting to figure out which strain works best for you. I’m here to help!
